MANILA – The College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers’ Jeanette Panaga and San Sebastian College Lady Stags’ Gretchel Soltones are in a tight battle for the MVP plum in the NCAA Season 92 women’s volleyball tournament.
After six matches, Panaga is slightly ahead of the pack with 102 points, on 68 spikes, 17 kill blocks and 17 service aces. Soltones, a two-time NCAA MVP, on the other hand, is not far behind with 97 points.
Panaga also tops the blocking category with an average of 0.68 per set, followed by University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas’ Lourdes Clemente (10 blocks, 0.59 per set) and Mapua’s Precious Sedenio (11 blocks, 0.50 per set).
Soltones leads in terms of spikes with a 43.90 percent success rate, while Season 91 Finals MVP Panaga is at second at 41.46 percent. At third is another Lady Blazer Ranya Musa at 41.18 percent.
Cherry Rose Genova of Lyceum Lady Pirates topped the service department with a total of 15 aces or .59 per serve. Jamela Suyat of Lady Altas is at second with 0.76 per set and Rebecca Cuevas of San Beda Red Lionesses has 0.68 per set to end up third.
Red Lionesses’ Vira Guillema leads in setting with 12.41 average per set, while Cuevas is at second with 9.91 per set. Lady Altas’ Necelle Gual came in at third with 9.76 per set.
Marjo Medalla of Lady Altas is on top in digs with an average of 6.00 per set. Season 91 Best Digger awardee Alyssa Eroa of the Lady Stags is at second with 5.59 and Glyka Medina has 5.11.
Eroa also stands out in the receiving department with a 50 percent efficiency rating, coming behind are Red Lionesses Franchesca Racraquin (37.68 percent) and Lady Altas’ Medalla (31.51 percent)./PN
