KALIBO, Aklan – Some parts of the Aklan West Road, which was closed due to landslides in Nabas town, are now open to motorists.
On Sunday, the onslaught of tropical depression “Urduja” triggered over 15 landslides in the town, prompting local authorities to close the road.
Buses, vans and other vehicles were advised to take an alternative and a much longer route going to and from Barangay Caticlan, Malay, Aklan, the main jump-off point to the world-famous Boracay Island.
Clearing operations in road sections in barangays Tolingon and Habana in Nabas were ongoing, according to Noel Fuentebella of the Aklan District Engineering Office.
“May mga lugar na one-lane dahil ongoing ang clearing operations. Target natin na maubos ang apat na natitirang landslides sa Biyernes. Ang mga lupang nakuha tinambak natin sa mga road slips sa Malay at Buruanga,” Fuentebella said.
Traffic enforcers were deployed to the areas where there are clearing operations. Signage was also put up.
As of this writing, two lanes in the road in Barangay Tolingon are passable.
Parts of the road sections from Barangay Tolingon to Barangay Habana were still being cleared by personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways, BSP Construction Company and Aklan Provincial Engineering Office.
