CHESS players from Passi City took home five medals in the Visayas leg of the National Executive and Age Group Chess Championship at CityMall in Kalibo, Aklan.
One of the Passi players who bagged a gold medal was Ruslan Pamplona in the boys Under 8 category. He bested Vaugh Robert Oberio and John Jacob Pane. Pamplona’s younger brother Rolando III finished on seventh place.
King Lanz Pamplona also won gold after finishing on top of the boys Under 10 category. Finishing on second and third places were Jecuambs Cuambot and Angelo Gabriel Dela Rosa.
Winning another gold for Passi delegation was Fritz John Ladot, who ruled the boys Under 20 category. Behind him were Jonas Dustin Bajo and Rheuzor James Roldan.
Passi’s Queen Rose Pamplona and Fern Albert Falle finished second in girls Under 12 and third in boys Under 14, respectively.
Other members of the Passi team were Kurt Kevin Ladot (sixth in boys Under 12), Anton John Cerbas (seventh in boys Under 14) and Patrick Panaligan (seventh in male Executive).
“Passi City is proud that, even with our lean delegation, we were able to take home five medals,” delegation head Randy Palomaria said of the Sunday games. “All of them did their best against tough players from Visayas.”/PN
