ILOILO – A collision between a motorcycle and a truck in the component city of Passi left two people dead.
The incident happened around 11:15 a.m. yesterday on a curved, sloped road in Sitio Afga, Barangay Jaguimitan.
Motorcycle driver Francisco Dela Torre Jr., 23, and back rider Erron Gilogo, 19, were killed.
Dela Torre was taken to the Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital, also in Passi City, but was declared “dead on arrival.”
Gilogo was admitted to the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, but died in the afternoon.
Another motorcycle back rider, Gilogo’s 19-year-old cousin Christian Paul, was injured. He was also taken to WVMC and being treated as of this writing.
Dela Torre was a resident of Barangay Sagrada, Dumarao, Capiz while the Gilogos were from Barangay Magdungao, Passi City.
Police said the Kawasaki Bajaj that Dela Torre was driving was bound for Passi city proper while the Isuzu 6×6 Rio — driven by Welmar Pacardo, 25, of Barangay Alimono, Passi City — was headed to Barangay Salngan, also in Passi.
“Ang truck nagapasaka, tapos ang motorcycle nagapanaog,” said Inspector Arnold Darroca, deputy Passi police chief. “Kay both sides katubuhan, indi kit-anon ang sumalang. Tapos ang motorcycle naggwa sa center lane.”
Darroca said they rushed the Gilogos to the Passi hospital, but they were referred to WVMC.
“By (Sunday) afternoon, we received information that Erron already expired,” he said.
Pacardo was unhurt. He was detained in the Passi City police station lockup cell./PN
