ILOILO – A 41-year-old patient at the Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian town ran amok and attacked hospital workers, watchers, and fellow patients using his intravenous (IV) stand, at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21.
According to the Alimodian Municipal Police Station (MPS), the suspect identified as alias “Toto”, a resident of Barangay Cagay, Leon town, was from the hospital’s Private Room 1 and went to the nurse station. He allegedly grabbed dextrose bags from patients, and bashed persons in the area with the IV stand.
The nurses and other staff members were able to calm down Toto and turned him over to the custody of the Alimodian MPS.
Police confirmed that one patient, an 80-year-old woman, was killed and four others were injured.
As of this writing, the suspect was detained at the Alimodian MPS. He is facing physical injury and homicide charges.
Police, meanwhile, were coordinating with Toto’s family. No one was around with him when the incident happened.
