BACOLOD City – The Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) was already congested.
With patients exceeding its 400-bed capacity, the CLMMRH’s officials appealed to health centers and district hospitals to help decongest it.
As of Tuesday, 700 patients were confined at the hospital, said Dr. Marlon Tabligan, chief of medical professional staff.
These included 82 patients from the Pediatrics Department transferred to the 65-bed Emergency Room (ER).
The Pediatrics Department was currently undergoing renovations, according to Dr. Harry Carial, department chief.
Around 300 to 500 outpatients go to the CLMMRH every day, said Dr. Julius Drilon, chief of hospital. The Outpatient Department normally takes in only 300 a day.
The ER, on the other hand, now accommodates almost 300 patients per day.
Clearly the hospital’s resources have “thinned out,” said Drilon.
He said the 29 health centers here and the 11 district hospitals across Negros Occidental should be strengthened, especially their primary care and preventive care services, so they could help decongest the CLMMRH.
Continued congestion may adversely affect the regional hospital’s resources and quality of service, said Drilon.
Tabligan said the CLMMRH now accommodates outpatients from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. to decongest the ER, while some nurses work double shifts.
The hospital has 265 plantilla nurses (paid by the Department of Health) and 361 job order nurses (paid by the hospital itself)./PN
