MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. emphasized the necessity of rehabilitating school buildings, pointing out that they have existed for several decades.

Following his inspection of Tibagan Elementary School in San Miguel, Bulacan on Monday to kick-start the annual school cleanup called Brigada Eskwela, Marcos observed some of the buildings were “Marcos-type” – constructed during the administration of his father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. from the late 1960s until 1986 – indicating that these structures were due for replacement already.

“Sa inspection namin, ‘yung ibang school buildings Marcos-type pa. Ang life niyan is 20 to 30 years, pero ayan mabuti na lang at nagagamit pa,” Marcos said.

“Really, they have to look at the rehabilitation of many of them,” the Chief Executive added.

President Marcos also noticed that comfort rooms in schools may need to be improved, and the water supply ensured.

“One of the things I noticed are the bathrooms… kailangan na kailangan nating linisin at pagandahin. Hindi naman mahirap gawin ‘yun. Ang problema sa mga pinuntahan naming eskwela, walang tubig. Kaya’t ‘yun ang titingnan naming mabuti kung saan dapat manggaling ang tubig. Bakit walang tubig, nagbabayad naman sila para sa kanilang water supply?” he said.

President Marcos further said that the water supply is a basic need to also ensure the health and safety of children in schools./PN
