MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called upon Filipinos to contribute to the preservation of hard-earned rights and freedoms, and to create a nation that honors the sacrifices made by its heroes.
In his 127th Independence Day message, the President emphasized that it is through unity and collaborative efforts that the nation will achieve progress and prosperity for both current and future generations.
“The freedom our forebears fought for has inspired generations to offer themselves to causes that would advance the welfare of society and humanity,” President Marcos said
“This precious gift has also encouraged countless individuals to dedicate their diligence and devotion to their respective fields for the glory of our great nation,” he added.
The Chief Executive then urged Filipinos to value their heritage “by striving for excellence in preserving our rights and freedoms” and ensure that these are “used solely for the improvement and protection of our citizenry.”
“Let us continue to bear the vigor of our ancestors as we defend our nation against those who seek to diminish the strength of our people. In the spirit of patriotism, let us honor our priceless freedom by building a country worthy of the sacrifices made by our heroes,” the President said.
“I also appeal to Filipinos to endeavor to enhance your abilities and character to give more to our nation,” he added. “Through our collective efforts, we will forge the path of progress, stability, and prosperity for our present and future generations.”
Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, for her part, has reminded Filipinos to fight for the country’s independence and not to fall prey to traitors.
“Hindi tayo lumaya para masadlak lamang sa pagdurusa ang ating bansa. Hindi tayo lumaya para muling mawalan ng karapatan at maging alipin ng iilan,” Duterte-Carpio said in a statement sent to Panay News.
“Mga kababayan, ang tinatamasa nating kalayaan ngayon ay bunga ng tunay at wagas na pagmamahal ng mga bayaning Pilipino sa ating bansa at ang magiting nilang paninindigan laban sa pang-aalipin ng mga dayuhan,” she added.
“Sa kanilang mga sakripisyo at pagbubuwis ng buhay ay natamasa natin ang kalayaan at namuhay tayo bilang bansang isinusulong ang sariling adhikain, interes, o pangarap,” she further said.
