PCAP: Kisela Knights smash Kingsmen in Wesley So Cup

MANILA – Iloilo Kisela Knights extended its winning streak in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) GM Wesley So Cup after crushing the Negros Kingsmen via a 15-6 victory on Wednesday night.

Iloilo prevailed over Negros in the blitz game, with Hovhannes Gabuzyan, Rogelio Antonio Jr., Cherry Ann Mejia, Cesar Mariano, and Dennis Bernas winning their matches.

The Kisela Knights maintained their dominance over the Kingsmen in the rapid play behind wins from Gabuzyan, Mejia, Mariano, Fritz Bryan Porras, and Bernas.

Furthermore, the Kisela Knight ended their perfect evening by pounding Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors, 14-7, to climb to a 25-6 win-loss slate in Southern Division.

The team struggled in the blitz against the Naki Warriors, but it bounced back in the rapid game on triumphs by Mejia, Silvederio, Porras, and Bernas. Gabuzyan, Antonio, and Cesar Mariano.

“It was huge victories for us, especially against Negros. It prepares the team for our all-important match for us on Saturday against Camarines (Soaring Eagle),” said Kisela Knights owner Leo Sotaridona.

On the other hand, the Kingsmen have recovered from their loss handed by the Kisela Knights after posting a 12.5-8.5 win over the Cebu City Machers to remain in the fourth spot in the division with a 20-11 win-loss record.

In blitz event, Negros edged Cebu, 5.5-1.5, following victories by Nelson Mariano, Rosendo Bandal Jr., Joel Pimentel, Rolzon Roullo, and Junaico Segismar while Rowelyn Acedo settled for a draw.

The Kingsmen were held to a 7-7 draw in the rapid category, with Pimentel and Roullo winning. Mariano, Steven Breckenridge, and Acedo settled for a draw./PN
