SAN JOSE, Antique – The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) donated some P42 million for the establishment of a drug rehabilitation center at the district hospital in Valderrama town.
“The fund is already there,” Gov. Rhodora Cadiao disclosed. “[We hope] it gets released in a few weeks’ time so we could start the construction.”
Cadiao said the amount will be used to put up a building specifically for drug dependents undergoing treatment.
Initially the PCSO allocated only P40 million but added P2 million for the hiring of three personnel to man the center, she said.
“A psychiatrist, an assistant to the psychiatrist and a nurse with special skills on the treatment of drug dependents” will be employed, the governor said.
She clarified that the Valderrama District Hospital will not be closed.
“We are improving it,” said Cadiao, “The drug rehabilitation facility will be an additional service.”
Earlier, the provincial police director Senior Superintendent Louis Garong said they were also waiting for funding from the Department of Health (DOH) for the planned drug rehabilitation center.
The DOH will determine the number of patients the center may accommodate, but Garong said around 50 to 100 may be taken in.
The Valderrama District Hospital is a provincial government-run facility.
Currently, Antique does not have a drug rehabilitation center. Drug dependents seeking treatment are taken to Iloilo. (PNA)
