ROXAS City – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested the Liga ng mga Barangay president of Ivisan, Capiz for alleged drug peddling.
Past noon on Tuesday, Elmor Boluso sold for P500 a sachet of shabu to an agent, according to PDEA. He was right away apprehended.
Boluso was the barangay captain of Ivisan’s Poblacion Sur. As Liga president, he was also an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Ivisan.
Prior to his arrest, Boluso attended the town’s “peace and order and dangerous drug summit with” Capiz police director Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion and Mayor Noel Yap.
“Boluso’s name was not in our watch list of suspected drug personalities,” said Nacion after learning of the barangay captain’s arrest. “He even promised to help in the police’s barangay drug-clearing operations.”
Between 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, four PDEA agents looked for Boluso at his house but because the barangay official was not around, they left, according to witnesses.
After about an hour, Boluso who was driving a motorcycle was stopped by an unmarked vehicle and armed men took him inside, witnesses claimed.
It was later learned that the armed men were PDEA agents; they informed the Ivisan police about Boluso’s arrest but did not give their names when asked by the Senior Police Officer 2 Efren Crispo, duty desk officer.
After informing the local police of their operation, the PDEA agents brought Boluso to Iloilo City.
“For sure Boluso was a bulang (cockfighting) aficionado and it’s public knowledge here. But a drug pusher? I cannot say that,” said Mayor Yap.
PDEA agents claimed to have recovered from Boluso a big plastic sachet of suspected shabu and P24,000 cash.
Boluso was detained at the lockup cell of PDEA in Iloilo City. He faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug A ct of 2002.
Boluso and his family denied that the barangay official was into illegal drugs. They claimed the PDEA agents’ recoveries were all “planted.”/PN
