THE LATEST group attempt to ingratiate themselves with United States President Donald Trump seems farcical with the FIFA’s peace prize. Football – or as some know it, soccer – is a great sport and it shouldn’t be sullied by this silliness.
Having coached numerous school sports, I have given awards for best player, best contributor, or most improved, but never for world peace. The closest award might be “most positive contributor”.
The gold trophy could be melted down, sold and the money given to a charity such as Doctors Without Borders. Every little bit helps.

I was amused to see President Trump seeming to doze off in the latest Cabinet meeting. This meeting included a lot of strong praise for the President and his “achievements”.
If anyone was praising me so enthusiastically I would be wide awake and attentive. But I’m not nearly 80.

Leave them in the dark
Thousands of Airbus planes have been grounded, basically because of too much solar radiation – sunlight, I assume – which might interfere with onboard flight control computers.
Isn’t modern science wonderful? Or maybe this was an AI event.
In Australia it shouldn’t be so much of a problem as we “Slip, Slop, Slap” with sunscreen protection.
It’s also not a real problem for me as I can only seem to afford flights that leave at midnight. Time to go by bus for a while.

Labels help
On the TV news, there was a scene of President Trump and a turkey, “Gobble”. There should have been a label saying “President Trump pardons a turkey (on the left)”.
Of course, he has pardoned many turkeys before, just look at the list including amongst others, politicians, crooks and rioters, a list too long to publish here.
It would also be inadvisable to publish suggestions online given the possible legal responses.

Practice makes perfect practice
The first attempt to prosecute the cases against James Comey and Letitia James, as ordered by President Trump, was tossed out as the prosecutor, Lindsey Halligan, wasn’t really a prosecutor. She may have been legally qualified but had never ever prosecuted anyone before and to take on a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director and an Attorney General as your first cases would seem rather ambitious.
This all seems silly but the real concern is that if you annoy or oppose the president you face the possibility, or actually high probability, of the legal system being weaponized against you. This is not right.
For the rest of the world, don’t just laugh at this as it is not the only country where this is happening and in some countries they just skip the trial part. We must all protect our people and our legal systems./PN
