Peloton tapped as Comelec commissioner

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has selected lawyer Michael Braganza Peloton as one of the commissioners of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), elections chief Sheriff Abas said.

Peloton, a lawyer with experience in information technology, will serve as the election body’s commissioner until Feb. 2, 2027, Abas added in a press statement on Monday.

“Commissioner Peloton is a timely addition to the Commission en banc as his vast experience in the field of law and information technology will highly contribute in our thrust to further improve and revolutionize our electoral processes,” Abas said.

“He will complement the existing members of the Commission en banc as we continue to strive to fulfill Comelec’s mandate in strengthening and advancing our democracy,” he added.

Peloton was nominated as Comelec commissioner on Sept. 17. He will then undergo screening with the Commission on Appointments before he can formally undertake his duties.

Peloton is replacing election expert Luie Tito Guia who retired in February this year.

Peloton is a former board member of the Philippine Reclamation Authority and was also listed as overseer of FLT Prime Insurance Corporation.

Meanwhile, President Duterte has yet to name the successor to former commissioner Al Parreño who retired in February./PN
