MANILA – More people can now leave their homes as the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) eased age restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said those aged 15 to 65 are now allowed to go out, but local government units have the freedom to impose a higher age limit for minors.
“Kinumpirma po ng IATF na pupwede na pong lumabas ang mga menor de edad mula 15 at mga seniors na hanggang 65. Pero ang mga LGUs ay pwedeng magtakda ng matandang edad para sa menor de edad,” Roque announced.
The previous travel restrictions for those under 21 and over 60 have been repeatedly contested. Since March, they were required to stay at home except for work and buying necessities.
In a related development, Roque said the IATF-EID also allowed business establishments and malls to hold sales and other marketing events as the government looks for ways to further reopen the economy.
“Ang mga establishments at mga malls may hold activities para magkaroon ng economic o business activity. Ito po ‘yung mga sales, pero subject po ito sa DTI [Department of Trade and Industry] guidelines in the operation of malls and shopping malls,” Roque said.
The spokesperson added that the IATF authorized the DTI to adjust permissible on-site operational capacities of all business establishments and/or activities under general community quarantine or lower./PN
