ILOILO – For the second time in a row, the provincial government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) was adjudged the best in the Philippines in the first-class province category.
The awarding ceremony of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) National Search for Best PESO was held on Wednesday night in Cauayan City, Isabela province.
The Iloilo PESO bested six other finalists from 39 regional nominees.
“Bugal gid ‘ni sang province of Iloilo kag bugal sang provincial PESO nga ginapangunahan ni (Francisco) Bombet Heler,” said Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.
He added: “Damo ang nabuligan. Madamo napatigayon nga matagaan sang obra indi lang dire sa Iloilo or sa Pilipinas, mga kasimanwa ta man nga nakakita sang obra abroad, especially sa Middle East.”
According to Heler, in 2016 a total 3,474 job seekers were able to land jobs through the help of PESO Iloilo.
For winning, PESO Iloilo got a P50,000 cash incentive. Heler said this would be used by the office as trust fund.
“Out of nagkalain-lain nga talaksan or criteria, nagdugang kita sang atun mga inputs or performance,” said Heler.
PESO Iloilo was also able to establish barangay PESOs in 728 villages of the province.
“By the end of this year, basi makalab-ot kita close to 1,000. Probably next year may grand convention of barangay PESOs that are helping us in the barangay level,” said Heler.
PESO-Iloilo was institutionalized in 2015 through the enactment of Provincial Ordinance No. 2015-122.
Its goal is to help produce a globally competitive workforce by promoting equity in employment opportunities while maintaining quality in the delivery of employment facilitation services in partnership with national government agencies and non-government organizations.
Some core services and functions of PESO include registration, referral, placement services, labor market information, career coaching and employment registration.
It also includes other special programs of the department including special recruitment activities, job fairs, and electronic manpower skills registry system, among others./PN
