Petro Gazz dumps Bali Pure in Premier V-League

MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels continued its romp in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference after a 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 sweep over Bali Pure Water Defenders on Sunday at the Imus City Sports Complex in Cavite.

By stretching its winning run to seven in as many matches, the Arnold Laniog-mentored Angels have already secured a Final Four seat and are closer to sealing the top overall spot.

The Angels fought toe to toe with the Water Defenders early in the first two sets before getting the needed separation from imports Janisa Johnson and Wilma Salas for a 2-0 set lead.

The Angels controlled the third set early with Johnson and Salas scoring at will against the paltry defense of the Water Defenders to build a comfortable cushion and complete a straight set win.

“It happens,” said Johnson of their early struggles. “We can’t always be perfect but I mean we’ve been practicing being in tough scenarios where we have to come back from being down.”

Meanwhile, Motolite showed grit and composure to score a come from behind 25-23, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-13, win over PacificTown Army Lady Troopers for its second straight win.

Channon Thompson finished with 28 points off 23 attacks, three aces and two kill blocks laced with 10 excellent receptions, while Krystle Esdelle had 23 markers built on 19 kills, three kill blocks and an ace for Motolite.

More importantly, Motolite has climbed to solo fourth spot with 2-4 win-loss record with a few games left in the eliminations, while the Lady Troopers are still hanging on to the third spot with 3-3 win-loss card./PN
