Petro Gazz sweeps PH Army, goes 5-0 in Premier V-League

MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels maintained its unblemished record in the Premier V League Reinforced Conference Season 3 after a 25-12, 29-27, 25-15 sweep on PacificTown–Army Lady Troopers on Saturday at San Juan Arena.

Cuban import Wilma Salas dropped 27 points, including six service aces, while fellow import Janisa Johnson had 22 markers built on 17 spikes, three blocks and two aces, for the Angels, which cruised to 5-0 win-loss card.

The Angels were scorching early in the first set as it erected an 18-4 edge en route to an easy 1-0 set edge. The Lady Troopers took a 22-17 edge in the second but the Angels leaned on Salas and Johnson to turn things around.

In the third set, the Angels took the fight away from the Lady Troopers as they planted a nine-point lead at match point, before Johnson delivered an ace to maintain its clean slate without dropping a set.

Ang result [sweep] naman secondary na lang sa amin. Kung talagang mag-favor sa amin ang game, kung sa amin nga mapunta ‘yung panalo better kasi siguro maganda ang ginawa namin,” said Angels head coach Arnold Laniog.

Reinforcements Olena Lymareva-Flink and Jenelle Jordan finished with 11 points each for the Lady Troopers, which dropped to 2-2 win-loss card.

Meanwhile, defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers recovered from a set down to score a 13-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-23 victory over the struggling Motolite.

Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin delivered 17 points, while Alyssa Valdez had 14 markers, on eight attacks and five service aces, to go along with eight digs for the Cool Smashers (3-1)./PN
