MANILA – JPV Marikina got back on the winning track in the 2018 Philippines Football League with a 5-1 victory over Global Cebu at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.

Barotac Nuevo native John Celiz led the way with 2 goals, while Iloilo City native J Baguioro, Keigo Moriyasu and Alem Angeles chipped in a conversion each for JPV.

After misfiring in its early attempts, JPV finally got on the board in the 26th minute with a close-range shot from Moriyasu. The score went up 2-0 at the half with Baguioro slotting one over Global Cebu’s goalkeeper Nelson Gasic.

JPV upped the advantage 4-0 early in the second half when Celiz scored back-to-back goals – first was a header deep from inside the box and another from a well-placed pass by Moriyasu.

Global managed to pull one back with Marvin Angeles scoring before the Marikina side regained the 4-point edge with an Alem Angeles breakaway hit.

In the other match, Stallion Laguna got a huge conversion from Fitch Arboleda late in the match to salvage a 1-1 draw with Davao Aguilas in the battle of the third- and fourth-place squads.

Aguilas drew first blood with a first-half conversion from Wesley Dos Santos but Stallion managed to eke one out in the added time when Arboleda escaped the defense.

Aguilas remained on third place with 29 points on eight wins, eight losses and five deadlocks while Stallion placed fourth with 25 points on a 9-9-1 win-loss-draw card./PN
