MANILA – The Philippine women’s beach volleyball teams ended their 29th Southeast Asian Beach Volleyball Championship stints after losing their quarterfinal matches at the Palawan Beach in Sentosa Island, Singapore.
Team Philippines 1 – Negrense Bernadeth Pons and Cherry Rondina – failed to reach the semifinals after an 11-21, 17-21 defeat to Indonesia’s Dhita and Pitu on Friday.
Team Philippines 2 – Ilongga Fiola Ceballos and Bacolodnon Patty Jane Orendain – also dropped their quarterfinals round to Thailand’s Numwong and Hongpak.
“Quarterfinals finish not bad for first-timers! Thank you, Philippines,” said Rondina, a beach volleyball champion for University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP and Petron Blaze Spikers in the Philippine Superliga.
Meanwhile, the Philippine men’s beach volleyball team of Anthony Arbasto and Jude Garcia also failed to advance to the final four after a 14-21, 18-21 loss to Indonesia’s Candra and Ashfiya.
Each of the women’s and men’s divisions comprised 15 teams from Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, Timor Leste, and the Philippines.
