MANILA – The country’s single-day coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-190) cases hit the 8,000-mark anew on Thursday – the second time it happened this week.
The Department of Health recorded 8,773 new COVID-19 infections, breaching the previous single-day high of 8,019 cases on Monday.
The new single-day record – minus six laboratories that failed to submit data on time – brought the total number of cases in the country to 693,048.
DOH noted that number of active cases increased to 99,891, which is the highest since the pandemic began. From the recorded active cases, 95 percent are mild, three percent are asymptomatic, 0.8 percent are severe, and 0.8 percent are in critical condition.
The health department posted a positivity rate of 16.1 percent based on the data on the noontime of March 24. Positivity rate is the percentage of individuals who tested positive out of all patients tested that day.
On top of the new cases, DOH tallied 574 recoveries, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 580,062. Furthermore, 56 new casualties were logged which increased the country’s death toll to 13,095 including those seven who were previously tagged as recovered patients.
Among overseas Filipinos, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported 31 new cases which pushed the total to 16,040 cases in 90 countries.
At least 20 overseas Filipinos have recovered which raised the number of recoveries to 9,772. The death toll, meanwhile, remained at 1,047./PN
