MANILA – Philippines capped off their campaign in the 2017 FIBA 3×3 World Cup with a 21-14 victory over El Salvador on Tuesday in Nantes, France (Wednesday in Manila).

Kiefer Ravena and Jeron Teng scored 7 points each, while JR Quinahan and Kobe Paras finished with four and three, respectively, for Chooks-Pilipinas, which finished with a 2-2 win-loss slate.

Philippines had a blazing start with early conversions from Paras and Quinahan. Ravena and Teng then joined the scoring for the squad to build an 18-10 lead.

El Salvador tried to mount a comeback, converting four straight points to cut the deficit to 18-14, but Chooks-Pilipinas answered with a layup by Teng and an outside shot by Ravena to finish off the game.

Philippines, ranked No. 13, was removed from the contention for the quarterfinals after suffering a 21-14 defeat in the hands of the No. 11 ranked Slovenia in the first match.

Slovenia scored the first 5 points of the game before widening the lead to 14-4 on hits by Gasper Ovnik. Chooks-Pilipinas, however, responded with a run behind Ravena to come to as close as 15-11.

Slovenia quickly retorted with back-to-back outside shots from Gaspar and Simon Finzgar to increase the lead to 19-11 before Adin Zavjic ended the game with an inside hit.

Ravena top-scored with 7 points while Paras, Teng and Quinahan struggled offensively with combined 6 points. Ovnik and Gaspar both had 7 points for Slovenia./PN
