MANILA – The Philippines is set to formalize its supply agreement with Novavax today for its coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said on Tuesday that the country will sign the supply deal with Novavax for the 30 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine.
An early data readout in January from its United Kingdom trial showed that Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine is around 96 percent effective against the original version of the COVID-19 and around 86 percent effective against the now widely circulating COVID-19 variants.
Novavax was the second United States-based company that has come to terms with the Philippine government aside from Moderna Incorporated, which signed a supply deal for 13 million doses of its vaccines over the weekend.
The Philippines has previously received 600,000 COVID-19 shots from Beijing-based Sinovac Biotech through a donation by China, and 525,600 doses from Britain’s AstraZeneca through vaccine-sharing COVAX Facility./PN
