CAPIZ — The Capiz Police Provincial Office (PPO) has launched the PNP BIKE 101 initiative, a training program aimed at enhancing the bicycle operation skills of police personnel while promoting sustainable and cost-effective policing.
The program seeks to improve police visibility across the province while addressing operational challenges brought about by rising fuel costs.
Provincial Director PCOL Albert D. Tapulao said the initiative supports the broader goals of the Philippine National Police (PNP), particularly the Police Regional Office 6, in adopting energy-efficient practices that contribute to environmental sustainability.
The program encourages police personnel, including those in administrative roles, to take part in bike patrols as a practical alternative to motorized transport. This approach is seen to improve accessibility, especially in communities that are difficult to reach by vehicles.
Part of the Pulisteniks program, BIKE 101 provides hands-on training in proper bicycle handling, road safety, and effective patrol deployment strategies.
Officials said the training equips personnel with the necessary skills for efficient bike patrol operations while also promoting physical fitness and overall wellness among officers.
“PNP BIKE 101 is not just about getting from point A to point B; it is about transforming the way we engage with the community,” Tapulao said. “Through this initiative, we strengthen our resolve to provide responsive and accessible policing while fostering a culture of health and environmental awareness among our officers.”
The initiative also aims to increase police visibility in both urban and rural areas, ensuring that law enforcers remain accessible to the public.
Authorities described the program as a step toward addressing mobility concerns while reinforcing the Capiz PPO’s commitment to sustainable policing and community engagement.
The BIKE 101 initiative forms part of a broader strategy to develop a pool of trained bike patrollers, aligned with the PNP’s guiding principle: “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”
