MANILA – Two-time Shakey’s V-League champion Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors aims to continue its domination next year as it revamps its lineup with the addition of Fille Cainglet-Cayetano and Gyzelle Sy.
Lady Warriors team manager Eric Ty said the arrival of the former Ateneo Lady Eagles star Cainglet-Cayetano is expected to boost the team’s open hitter position, which is led by Pablo.
“We are excited to formally welcome Fille to the Lady Dubs,” Ty said in a statement. “Her experience and her ability to impart her brand of professionalism will be a big boost to our young championship core.”
Before taking a leave from volleyball due to pregnancy, Cainglet-Cayetano last played for the Petron Tri-Activ Spikers in the Philippine Superliga (PSL), where she won two championships.
Veteran setter Sy, meanwhile, discontinued her initial plan to move to the RC Cola-Army Lady Troopers in the PSL after agreeing to a one-year contract with the Lady Warriors.
According to Ty, the former Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws setter has decided to stay put with the Lady Warriors after signing her contract extension a few days ago.
“She played a big role in securing our two championships last season and it is the policy of the team to retain our core players,” Ty said. “She is also familiar with the team after playing for two years with us.”
The Lady Warriors have recently signed Pablo to a lucrative five-year deal that includes a brand new car. Sy said that the team is still luring a many-time Shakey’s V-League MVP, who reportedly bolted from her team days ago.
“As an elite team, we owe it our fans not only to bring them the best players but also showcase excellent role models for the younger generations that will carry the Philippine volleyball in the coming years,” Ty said./PN
