MANILA – The Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors and the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses will begin their clash in Game 1 of the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Reinforced Conference best-of-three semifinals today at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Warriors and Golden Tigresses will once again clash at 6 p.m. after the other semifinals series pitting the Bali Pure Water Defenders against the Bureau of Customs Transformers at 4 p.m.
Despite the advantage due to its two reinforcements, Lady Warriors head coach Rommel Abella said they will still not take the Golden Tigresses lightly due to the latter’s known fighting spirit.
“As expected naman from the start na UST kahit lamangan mo ng malaki lalaban ng lalaban ‘yan,” said Abella. “Kaya sinabi ko sa mga players ko na hindi kami pwedeng magkumpyansa laban sa UST.”
Golden Tigresses head coach Emilio Reyes, for his part, said that he welcomes the challenge they will be facing against the Lady Warriors as it can be used to build-up his team heading into their UAAP Season 79 campaign.
“Actually, we already exceeded the expectations kasi entering this conference, we don’t expect anything naman pero pipilitin naming manalo,” said Reyes, who recently steered the Golden Tigresses to the University Games women’s volleyball crown.
Leading the way for the Lady Warriors, which is on a six-game winning run, are American reinforcements Breanna Mackie and Kay Kacsits, Michelle Gumabao, Myla Pablo, Elaine Kasilag, and Iris Tolenada.
Bannering the Golden Tigresses, on the other hand, are Ennajie Laure, Marivic Meneses, Pamela Lastimosa, Chlodia Cortez, and Cherry Rondina. Carla Sandoval is doubtful to play due to an injury.
Clashing in the other series are the Transformers, which is to be led by MVP candidate Alyssa Valdez and their Thai imports, and the Water Defenders, which will rely on Angelique Gervacio and their American reinforcements./PN
