MANILA – Sen. Grace Poe has called for an “immediate investigation” into the reported animal cruelty in the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, “Oro.”
The MMFF organizers have been urged to find out whether an actual dog was butchered in one scene.
“If in fact that were the case, I condemn such act and would move for the invalidation of the FPJ (Fernando Poe Jr.) award given to the film,” Poe said.
Artistic license does not justify the violation of our laws, the lawmaker added.
The film directed by Alvin Yapan won the FPJ Memorial Award for Excellence at the recently concluded 42nd Metro Manila Film Festival.
It also earned a nod for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Irma Adlawan) and Best Ensemble Cast.
If found liable for the criminal offense, Poe directed the MMFF to impose administrative sanctions against the producers and/or filmmakers.
“Oro” may also be stripped of its awards for “misrepresentation,” she added./PN
