MANILA – The presence of police personnel in the world-famous Boracay Island, which opened its doors to local tourism on Thursday, is not expected to intimidate the island visitors.
Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said the role of the police in the famed island resort was to assist tourists.
Eleazar added that the police personnel monitoring Boracay will also remind visitors to observe minimum health protocols in light of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Ang role ng ating Philippine National Police (PNP) ay magbantay para siguraduhin na magiging maayos,” Eleazar said in an interview with GMA 7’s Unang Hirit on Thursday.
“Hindi po sila makakagambala sa pagre-relax, pag-e-enjoy ng ating turista, kung hindi sila po ay nandun para tulungan pa nga sila at i-assist sila,” he added.
Eleazar said PNP chief Police General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan ordered unit commanders to coordinate with local governments especially those with tourist spots.
