ILOILO City – The Special Weapons and Tactics team and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office raided the house of the secretary of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Sara, Iloilo yesterday.

According to Chief Inspector Charlie Sustento and Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela both of the PDEU, James Garson Balsomo I was not in the house during the 1:30 p.m. raid but they recovered a grenade, 39 empty bullet shells of a .45 pistol, assorted live ammunitions, four packs of dried marijuana leaves, and empty sachets of shabu.

The police had a search warrant from Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 68.

Balsomo was a resident of Barangay Antonio Yusay, Sara. He was placed under surveillance for several weeks prior to the raid, said Sustento.

“We applied for a search warrant after receiving information linking him to illegal drugs and the Balume group,” added Sustento.

The Balume group had been linked to illegal drugs and guns-for-hire activities in northern Iloilo, said Sustento.

As of this writing, policemen were conducting hot pursuit operations to arrest Balsomo.

Sustento described Balsomo as a high-value police target./PN
