BACOLOD City – A man detained in a female cell at Police Station 1 has killed himself, police said.

The jailer, Police Officer 2 Yves Eduardo Tiangson, was being made to explain.
Police Station1 could identify the man only as “Bebot.”

Bebot was a peanut grinder in a stall at the Libertad public market.

He was a resident of Escalante City, Negros Occidental but temporarily residing in Barangay Singcang-Airport, police said.

Senior Inspector Leo Estopa, Police Station 1 commander, said Bebot was arrested for “alarm and scandal” at around 1 a.m. on Thursday on Hernaez Street.

At around 6:03 a.m. some detainees called the attention of Tiangson after hearing someone moaning from the female cell where Bebot was placed, Estopa said.

Tiangson discovered that the victim hanged himself by tying a piece of tarpaulin material around his neck.

The jailer called 911.

Bebot was then taken to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital. The attending physician, Dr. Feriza Mirasol, pronounced him “dead on arrival.”

Estopa said he ordered Tiangson to provide a detailed explanation for the incident within 48 hours.

Bebot’s remains will be subject to an autopsy, police said./PN
