Policeman arrested for ‘indiscriminate firing’

ILOILO City – A policeman was arrested. Neighbors complained he indiscriminately fired a homemade gun during an altercation with a relative in Barangay Tacbuyan, Estancia, Iloilo on Saturday night.

Patrolman Edgar John Sulit had a heated argument with his relative at around 8:30 p.m., according to Police Major Niño Leonard Amar, Estancia police chief.

The suspect, who was taking a Field Training Program at the Bacolod City Police Office, would be held criminally and administratively liable, said Amar.

The fired gun was a homemade .45 pistol, said Amar, and it was surrendered by Sulit.

The incident disappointed Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, regional police director. He ordered an investigation.

“If proven guilty, I will order na hindi na siya pwedeng magpatuloy sa  pagkapulis,” said Pamuspusan.

Amar said Sulit would be subjected to a paraffin test.

“To all police personnel across the region, do not challenge my thrust which is internal cleansing. I will go hard on it. I am serious about it,” said Pamuspusan./PN
