JORDAN Poole converted a go-ahead three-pointer as Washington Wizards pulled off a 113-110 victory over Charlotte Hornets in the 2024-25 NBA regular season on Thursday night (Friday in the Philippines) at the Capital One Arena in Washington, District of Columbia.
Down 109-110 after a dunk by Hornets’ Mark Williams, Poole surged the Wizards ahead at 112-110 with a three-pointer from the right wing with 8.7 seconds remaining.
Hornets’ Brandon Miller then missed on a three-point attempt before Wizards’ Justin Champagnie sealed the victory with a split free throw with a second left.
Poole finished with 25 points, including five three-point conversions, to go with six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal as the Wizards improved to a 5-23 win-loss slate.
Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr added 20 and 15 points, respectively, Jonas Valanciunas had a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Cory Kispert and Malcolm Brogdon had 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Wizards.
LaMelo Ball ended with 31 points, six rebounds, and six assists, Miles Bridges added 22 points and 14 rebounds, and Miller and Williams ended with 18 and 16, respectively, as the Hornets fell to 7-23.
Meanwhile, Cameron Johnson stepped up in the fourth quarter as Brooklyn Nets (12-18) turned back the shorthanded Milwaukee Bucks (16-13), 111-105, at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Johnson drilled nine of his 29 points total in the final quarter, to go with five rebounds, and three assists in almost 35 minutes of action to lead the way for the Nets.
Noah Clowney and Shake Milton ended with 20 markers apiece, while Nicholas Claxton and Keon Johnson ended with 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for the Nets.
Khris Middleton led the Bucks with 21 points, Brook Lopez added 20 markers, while Bobby Portis Jr. and Gary Trent Jr. ended with 18 and 14 markers, respectively./PN
