BACOLOD City – A pregnant mother and her one-year-old son drowned at the beach in Purok Malipayon, Barangay 35.

The 21-year-old Rocielyn Dela Cruz and her son were swimming around 9 a.m. on April 15 when a strong wave swept them, Police Station 1 commander Senior Inspector Eugene Tolentino said, citing Dela Cruz’s partner Noli Hobahid.

Dela Cruz was five-months pregnant.

Hobahid tried to save his partner and son, but to no avail.

A barangay tanod recovered his son’s body some 15 minutes later, police said.

The son was taken to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital where he was declared “dead on arrival.”

A certain Joseph Rivera found Dela Cruz’s body around 5:10 p.m. of the same day./PN
