Prices of basic goods in Antique still stable – DTI

Laminated posters reminding consumers to ask for their exact change whenever they buy products are placed near counters in Antique in line with Republic Act 10909, or the No Shortchanging Act of 2016.

SAN JOSE, Antique – The prices of prime commodities in Antique remain stable, according to the latest monitoring conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Glen Fernando of DTI-Antique said stores and supermarkets in the province were compliant to the suggested retail prices of basic products.

The DTI is monitoring the prices in the market to ensure that consumers are not taken advantage by unscrupulous traders.

This is a nationwide initiative of the agency, stressed Fernando.

In Antique, the DTI conducts monitoring of stores daily.

This is to make sure that establishments are complying with the automatic price ceiling that has been imposed since last month as a state of calamity was declared in the entire province.

Business Counselors of Negosyo Centers were mobilized to help in monitoring the prices of products like milk, canned sardines, bottled water, coffee, instant noodles, detergent soaps, bread, candles, iodized salt, and processed meat and poultry products, condiments, toilet soap and batteries.

Sanctions await establishments found violating the prescribed rates, Fernando said.

Meanwhile, the DTI said the supply of goods in Antique is sufficient despite the inclement weather.

The DTI is also encouraging the strict implementation of Republic Act 10909, or the No Shortchanging Act of 2016.

During the price monitoring, the agency reminded business establishments to issue exact change to consumers.

The DTI also distributed laminated posters reminding consumers to ask for their exact change whenever they pay for goods.

The posters are placed near the counters of stores. (With a report from PIA/PN)
