AKLAN — The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) has intensified its preparations for the Ati-Atihan Festival 2026, with Regional Director Brig. Gen. Josefino D. Ligan emphasizing the vital role of technology and discipline in ensuring public safety during the celebration.
Ligan visited the Aklan Provincial Police Office on December 29, where he personally participated in contingency planning, tabletop exercises, and communication drills with local police units.
During the visit, Ligan directed the Kalibo police to maximize the use of all available closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, stressing their preventive value in crowd management and crime deterrence.
“CCTVs are not just tools for investigation; they are strong deterrents against crime,” Ligan said, noting that proper placement and constant monitoring are essential for managing large crowds and ensuring rapid response to incidents.
He also underscored the importance of body-worn cameras (BWCs) and other video-recording devices for police personnel deployed during the festival.
“These devices promote transparency, protect both officers and the public, and provide crucial evidence when needed,” Ligan said, urging units to ensure that equipment is well maintained and consistently used throughout the festivities.
Beyond operational and technical readiness, Ligan reminded officers of the need for moral and spiritual grounding in their duties.
“We must pray not only for a peaceful, incident-free Ati-Atihan but also for constant protection and wisdom in every task we do,” he said, adding that faith helps strengthen commitment to service. “Our faith strengthens our resolve to serve the community with integrity and courage,” he added.
Officials of the Aklan Provincial Police Office expressed appreciation for the regional director’s visit and guidance, saying the exercises and directives will help shape a comprehensive security plan for Ati-Atihan 2026 aimed at keeping the festival safe and orderly for both residents and visitors./PN
