BACOLOD City – On Cinco de Noviembre, the public will be allowed to sign the manifesto seeking the retention of Negros Island Region.
A copy will be placed at the lobby of the Negros Occidental provincial capitol, according to Provincial Planning and Development Officer Ma. Lina Sanogal.
Sanogal said they could neither estimate the number of people who would sign nor set a deadline.
“Indi ta man mabutangan timeline kay wala pa man ta kabalo ano gid bala ang matabo,” she said. “This will continue until we get what we are appealing for.”
Cinco de Noviembre (November 5) is a commemoration of the Negrenses’ liberation from the Spanish rule in 1898. It is a special nonworking day in Negros Occidental, under Republic Act 6709.
On Oct. 24 local government officials and representatives from government agencies and businesses in the region drafted a manifesto appealing to President Rodrigo Duterte not to dissolve the region.
Malacañang and Cabinet officials have said Duterte was set to sign an executive order dissolving the island region.
“Amo man ni sia gihapon (ang manifesto), ginpapanaog ta lang sa mga tawo kay sadto mga officials lang ang naka-sign,” Sanogal clarified.
She said they were also planning to bring the manifesto to the local government units.
“Pwede ta ini ipapanaog sa mga mayors naton, ipadala sa munispiyo nila kag sa mga city halls para ang mga tawo sa mga banwa-banwa maka-sign man,” said Sanogal.
She added: “I am also open to the possibility of bringing it to malls and plazas so it may reach as many people as possible.”/PN
