ILOILO – To decongest tertiary hospitals in Iloilo City, especially those catering to severe cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from this province, the provincial government will establish a critical care unit at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital (IPH) in Barangay Rumbang, Pototan town.
Checking of medical equipment and area inspection are underway, according to acting Provincial Administrator Suzette Mamon.
“Ang minimum requirement sa critical care unit per IATF-MEID (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) is three beds, amo ‘na anay sa IPH ang three-bed capacity ang i-establish ta subong,” Mamon said.
Healthcare utilization rate (HUCR) of the district hospitals here and the IPH remained at around 60 to 70 percent, Mamon added.
To note, the provincial government-run hospitals have 320 dedicated beds for coronavirus patients while more or less 500 beds were for the non-COVID patients.
On the other hand, Mamon said the provincial government is also finalizing which hotel or accommodation establishment could be used as community isolation facility as preparation when all dedicated beds for COVID-19 patients get fully occupied.
In terms of managing coronavirus patients, Mamon said the district hospitals are also performing at their best./PN
