
BACOLOD City – A 34-year-old woman, who served as purok chairperson of Sitio Mana-uban, Purok 5, Barangay Lina-on, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, was shot to death by five unidentified gunmen on October 14.
The Cauayan Municipal Police Station withheld the victim’s name. The attack occurred at her residence, located in a mountainous area of the locality, at around 6:30 p.m.
Initial investigation revealed that the suspects, all armed with long firearms, arrived in front of the victim’s house and instructed her family members to go inside. While speaking with the victim, the gunmen suddenly opened fire, hitting her multiple times in different parts of her body, according to police reports.
The victim was immediately brought to Cauayan District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Authorities recovered several pieces of evidence at the crime scene, including an empty 5.56mm rifle cartridge case, an empty 7.62mm rifle cartridge case, two deformed bullets of a 7.62mm rifle, and a deformed 7.62mm rifle slug.
The local police were conducting a thorough investigation to identify and arrest the suspects. The motive for the killing remained undetermined at this time./PN
