BACOLOD City — Two minors and a senior citizen died after drowning in the coastal waters of Barangay Inayawan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on October 11.
Police identified the victims as a five-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl, and a 64-year-old businesswoman — all residents of Sitio Capaclan, Purok 13, Barangay Inayawan.
Initial police investigation revealed that the victims were swimming along the shoreline at around 10:58 a.m. when the two minors were suddenly swept away by a strong current.
The 64-year-old woman, who was the grandmother of the five-year-old boy, tried to rescue the children but was also carried off by the current, resulting in their drowning.
The Philippine Coast Guard and local police immediately conducted retrieval operations and successfully recovered the bodies of the victims.
Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Cauayan brought the victims to the Cauayan District Hospital, where attending physician Dr. Nieves Roca declared them dead on arrival./PN
