SAN JOSE, Antique – A drug suspect was killed after he tried to evade arrest in Barangay Madrangca, a police report showed.

Police identified the suspect as the 34-year-old Johndelbert “Joy-joy” Monares of Barangay 4.

Monares is a drug surrenderee in 2016, according to the police.

Monares sold shabu to an undercover officer for P500 around 4:47 p.m. on Saturday along Marina Street, the report stated.

When he sensed that he was transacting with a police officer, Monares drew a .38 revolver and fired twice at the latter.

Monares missed, though.

That was when back-up police forces fired at Monares, hitting him on the left chest and temple.

Monares was rushed to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital but died along the way.

Joint elements of the Antique Police Provincial Office Drug Enforcement Unit, San Jose police station and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6 staged the operation.

Recovered from Monares were six sachets of shabu and the gun loaded with five bullets.

The police also confiscated Monares’ motorcycle and a black cellphone.

The drug items were turned over to the Police Regional Office 6 Crime Laboratory.
