BACOLOD City – A radio broadcaster was charged with two counts of libel.
Atty. Vicente Petierre III, Sangguniang Panlungsod secretary, filed the charges against Franklin Villanueva on Nov. 23 last year yet.
The case is now with Regional Trial Court Branch 50. The court has forwarded the warrant of arrest against Villanueva to the warrant and subpoena unit of the Bacolod City Police Office, Petierre said.
Villanueva “maliciously maligned” him twice in the program “Frankahanay Live” at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. over dyRL Abyan Radyo on Nov. 9 last year, said Petierre.
The radio broadcaster “[said] and/or [insinuated] in his program that I am one of the public officials who received money from IPM Construction [and] Development Corp. (garbage contractor of the City of Bacolod) in the amount of P250,000,” read part of Petierre’s complaint.
Petierre said Villanueva mentioned in his program about a “black propaganda” accusing “corrupt” city government officials and employees of getting bribed to let the IPM get away with issues hounding it.
The IPM was previously criticized for its inefficiency in collecting garbage across the city, particularly in subdivisions.
Libel is a bailable offense. Petierre was clueless on the bail bond set for Villanueva’s case.
