Ramos-less Alab Pilipinas rips Zhuhai Wolf Warriors apart

San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas swept their four-game season series with the Zhuhai Wolf Warriors. ABL

MANILA – San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas hardly felt the absence of Peter John Ramos as it scored a 108-81 win over Zhuhai Wolf Warriors in the 2018-2019 ASEAN Basketball League on Sunday night at the Sta. Rosa Multipurpose Sports Complex in Laguna.

Renaldo Balkman led the way with 20 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks, while Bobby Ray Parks Jr. added 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists for the Philippines side (15-3).

Ramos was slapped with a one-game suspension by the ABL after incurring his fifth technical foul of the season during Alab’s game against the Wolf Warriors last Friday in Macau.

In Ramos’ absence, Filipino-Americans Brandon Rosser and Caelan Tiongson picked up the slack with the former finishing with 16 markers, while the latter had 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.

The Philippine squad got its shots going early in the game as it build a 28-20 advantage before widening it to 60-41 at the half behind the offensive outbursts of Balkman and Parks.

The Alab Pilipinas continued to connect their shots in the second half with Tiongson and Rosser finding their touch en route for its biggest lead at 102-67 on a three-pointer by Bacolodnon Pao Javelona.

The victory allows the Jimmy Alapag-mentored Alab Pilipinas to sweep their four-game season series with the Macau-based team.

Chen Cai finished with 32 points, built on five triples, Cory Bradford added 23 markers while Mike Bell tallied a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Wolf Warriors (2-16)./PN
