MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts remained immaculate in the 2019 Rebisco Volleyball League National Finals via a 25-20, 25-16 sweep of the University of Mindanao-Tagum at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Setter Katherine Shaine Cortez stood tall. She orchestrated the offense well all-game long en route to their third consecutive win in as many matches on Tuesday.
The Thunderbolts set the tone early with hits from Alyssa Bertolano and Shane Carmona. The UM tried its best to keep in step but faltered down the stretch.
Bacolod Tay Tung jumped to a double-digit lead in the second period before UM tried to stay alive late in the match. An attack by Annicka Cabasac, however, ended the match for the Thunderbolts.
“Katherine really stepped up in this game. Her setting and serving were efficient,” said Thunderbolts team manager Jose Montalbo. “It is also good as everyone did their share to take this win.”
After facing Sibu of Malaysia as of presstime on late Wednesday, the Thunderbolts will close the elimination round against Hawaii on Thursday afternoon./PN
