REGIONAL tripartite wage and productivity boards will start reviewing wage rates across the country in compliance with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Labor Day, May 1.
“Bilang direktiba ng Pangulo, ang atin pong regional tripartite wage and productivity boards ay magsisimula na po sa kanilang pagre-review nung kanilang wage rates kasama po ang mga sektor ng labor at employers at iba pang ahensya po ng pamahalaan,” DOLE Bureau of Local Employment Officer in charge Assistant Secretary Patrick Patriwirawan said.
In his speech at the 123rd Labor Day Celebration in Pasay City, the President said the regional wage boards have been continuously studying wage hikes, noting that 16 regions have implemented wage increase since June last year.
“We hear the call of our workers for better wages and assure you that your concerns are being addressed through the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards,” the President said.
He added: “The government stands firm in its commitment to protecting and advancing workers’ welfare while promoting inclusive economic development.”
Asked about the proposed P200 legislated wage hike, Patriwirawan said the department will defer to the wisdom of Congress and the president.
“Atin pong ibinibigay na desisyon na ito sa Kongreso po nung kung sila po ay magrerekomenda na magkaroon po ng legislated wage increase at kung ito po ay aaprubahan ng ating Pangulo, ang kagawaran po ay handang i-implementa itong legislation po na ito,” he said.
Meanwhile, a nationwide job fair was conducted in 69 sites nationwide on May 1, offering over 250,000 vacancies from 2,500 participating employers.
Of the vacancies, 208,000 were local jobs while 46,000 were overseas, according to Patriwirawan.
The top job vacancies being offered in the nationwide job fair were production operators (34,000 slots), sales clerk/assistant (31,000 slots), call center representatives (18,200 slots), service crew (12,200 slots), and micro finance officer (9,700 slots).
He also noted that the industries with most vacancies this year are in manufacturing, retail, business process outsourcing, accommodation and food service, and financial and insurance activities. (ABS-CBN News)
