ILOILO City – Fifty-three individuals were accosted for holding a “super spreader” event at a resto-bar in Barangay Mohon, Arevalo district here over the weekend.
According to Compliance Monitoring Team head Nestor Canong, they received a report about the said gathering at Hooch Resto-bar around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. They went to the area together with personnel of the Arevalo police station headed by Police Captain Chen Tañagras.
There they chanced upon the individuals – mostly unmasked and remiss of physical distancing – holding “rap battle performances”, on top of the alcoholic drinks being served to the crowd, according to Canong.
They were issued citation tickets for violation of Regulation Ordinance No. 2020-095 (Face Mask Ordinance) and Regulation Ordinance No. 2020-066 (Social Distancing Ordinance).
The establishment, on the other hand, was immediately padlocked for violation of Executive Order No. 2021-092-A, or the amendments on modified enhanced community quarantine(MECQ) protocols, as well as violation of Section 3 of the General Bar Guidelines of Executive Order No. 46-2019 issued by the Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Most of the accosted individuals were young adults.
Canong appealed to the public to stop being pasaway, and that holding mass gatherings could lead to rapid coronavirus transmission.
