Revenge killing? Girl shot inside house

ILOILO City – A mother is seeking justice for her Grade 7, 16-year-old daughter who was shot inside their house in Barangay Navais, Mandurriao district on Nov. 2, All Souls’ Day.

Maurita Mana-ay’s daughter Noime died of a gunshot wound. The bullet entered her left shoulder then landed in her heart.

At the time of the shooting around 8:30 p.m., Noime was alone in the kitchen boiling water.

Family members rushed to the kitchen after hearing a burst of gunfire, found the bleeding Noime and took her to the Western Visayas Medical Center where she died.

According to Police Major Marlon Valencia, Mandurriao police chief, “We already have a person of interest.”

A pair of black slippers was recovered; these were believed to be the suspect’s.

Maurita believed there really was intent to harm her family.

Two years ago, she said, her husband who was then a village watchman had killed a resident.

Her husband is currently detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology for the killing.

Maurita said her tanod husband advised a rowdy drunk man to calm down and go home but the man tried to stab him.

Her husband shot the man dead.

“I believe revenge was the motive in my daughter’s killing. We have no enemies,” Maurita told the police./PN
