BACOLOD City – There is enough rice supply in Negros Occidental, according to the National Food Authority (NFA).
NFA provincial manager Marianito Bejemino said there are still 1.3 million bags of rice good for 62 days in Negros Occidental, based on their latest stock inventory.
Bejemino said these include 800,000 bags of commercial rice, 500,000 household supplies and 10,000 sacks of rice at the NFA warehouse.
Despite not having rice harvesting activities recently, the current supply is “stable” and “more than enough” for Negrenses, Bejemino stressed.
Bejemino said they may temporarily stop supplying NFA rice in the market to reserve stocks for victims of calamities.
But he assured that the NFA supply will be replenished as soon as President Rodrigo Duterte approves the importation of rice from China, Vietnam, Thailand, and India.
Bejemino added that five million sacks of imported rice weighing about 25,000 metric tons are expected to arrive in the country by May or June./PN
