MANILA – A rice industry group was dismayed that President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law rice tariffication bill, which will allow free flow of the staple grain into the market.

Rowena del Rosario-Sadicon of the Philippine Rice Industry Stakeholders Movement said the measure would create “chaos.”

“It will put the price to go down, but eventually we’re just going to just depend on importation,” she said.

Duterte had said the bill is expected to result in lower rice prices and help tame inflation. (ABS-CBN News)
