Richard Garin officially moves to Miag-ao; Mayor Napulan surprised

ILOILO – Former 1st District congressman Oscar “Richard” Garin Jr. transferred his voter’s registration from Guimbal to neighboring Miag-ao town on May 5, confirmed Jessie Borro Jr., election officer of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the municipality.

Garin logged Barangay Kirayan Sur, Miag-ao as his address.

He had a house there, Borro said.

Miag-ao’s Mayor Macario Napulan said he was surprised because Garin, a political ally, had not told him about it.

Medyo nakibot ako,” he told Panay News. “Pero pirme man diri sia sa Miag-ao sang vice governor sia kag congressman.”

Napulan declined to speculate on Garin’s intention.

As for himself, Napulan said, he may run for Provincial Board member or return to the private sector.

The three-termer mayor – a medical doctor – is barred by law from seeking a fourth consecutive term.

On May 2, Garin told Panay News he was transferring his voter’s registration to San Joaquin – where his mother Ninfa Garin is the incumbent mayor./PN
