ILOILO City – Illegal structures on Ybiernas Street, City Proper were demolished.
The city government’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) led the demolition.
Fifteen structures obstructing the street spanning barangays San Felix and Inday were removed.
According to PSTMO chief Jeck Conlu, among the illegal structures demolished were eateries and a barangay tanod outpost.
The clearing of Ybiernas Street, currently a one-way street, is in line with the plan to make it a two-way street.
General Luna Street is frequently congested and vehicles may be allowed to take Ybiernas Street as an alternative route soon, explained Conlu.
More congested streets due to illegal structures would be cleared, he said, “para ma-divert naton ang iban nga mga private vehicles nga mag-use sang ini nga mga dalan.”
Delgado Street may be next, he revealed.
“Subong naga-inventory man kita sang mga sidewalks nga gina-occupy sang mga private establishments,” said Conlu.
The PSTMO chief urged barangay officials to take the lead in clearing of obstructions the streets within their jurisdictions./PN
