MANILA – President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte has vowed to allocate P2 billion of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corpration’s (Pagcor) funds toward health services and medicine for the country’s poor.
On Nov. 28, Pagcor turned over a total of P5 billion for the Presidential Social Fund.
During the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Malacañang Palace, Duterte said the amount should be ready for distribution soon.
“I want every Filipino holding a reseta of a doctor that could not find the money to buy the medicines, sabi ko, ‘ibigay ninyo ‘yang two billion na ‘yan this Christmas’,” he added.
The President also reminded Sec. Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial of the Department of Health to ensure the amount will be used to buy medicine and services for the poor.
“Just to see to it that is not – the money is not lost along the way, that no corruption will take place,” Duterte stressed.
Duterte previously said he plans to use his Pagcor funds for the resurrection of the “Botika ng Bayan”.
He has also considered using part of the amount to build a drug rehabilitation center in the Visayas./PN
